I make functional art out of mud by playing with it and then baking it.
I have made arts and crafts my entire life. I knit my way through college and law school, painted at night while correcting student homework, and sewed my children’s clothing when they were tiny. Even my pandemic baking became a form of artistic expression, as I used razors to carve intricate patterns into the crusts that got gobbled up by my family within hours.
Teaching and selling ceramics is my newest career, after (in reverse order) public health advocate, water policy wonk, legislative aide, environmental attorney, corporate litigator, high school science and math teacher, and microbiologist. It took me until I turned fifty to allow my creative side to become more than a hobby, and I’m so grateful that my family has supported me in taking this step.
If you also find joy in making things, I hope you make the time to be creative too!
